Blog 6 Concept Teaching Game - Equivalent Fractions Memory Game
Students can use cards or fraction strips as a visual aid to match the equivalents. The game can be practiced individually, with groups or with partners. This game can help learners' understanding of fractions. Learners learn basic skills surrounding recognition of common fraction, identification fractions of numbers of objects and finding equivalences. The game needs learners to work with a series of problems on equivalent fractions in which they utilize their conceptual understanding to identify pairs of equivalent fractions.
The game is appropriate for third grade students. The teacher must select level appropriate for each grade and academic needs of students. Thus, in every level, the number of equivalent fractions to be matched should be changed. It is simple to implement the game. All that is needed is are cards with equivalent fractions printed on it. In a classroom setting, the teacher will place the cards in a center face down and allow students to each pick two cards by taking turns. The teacher allows the student who picks two equivalent cards to keep them and wait for another turn. The students can practice individually, in pairs, or in groups. Examples of matching equivalents include 1/6 to 6/12, 1/3 to 4/12. If the cards do not match, they are turned over again for another student to try and match cards. The student who has the most cards is declared the winner once all the pairs are matched. The game is meant to boost the confidence and knowledge of learners in recognizing and identifying equivalent fractions.

Recognize and generate simple equivalent fractions, e.g., 1/2 = 2/4, 4/6 = 2/3. Explain why the fractions are equivalent, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
Hi Daniella! This is a great game! Thank you for sharing. It amazes me how many great games there are for teaching and learning today. We are lucky to be able to make learning fun. Susie
